Recruit Kael: The Clown of Illisia

The Clown of Illisia quests were added in v28.45.94. This guide is based on USA game client (v28.50.39). See Patch Notes for later changes (if any).

Synopsis :

Even though he left Patrician faction, Leona says that Kael is still a wild card that could tip the scales in the Evora-Patrician conflict. Joshua promises to help you get to Kael in exchange for punishing slackers in the Witchcraft Troops. It seems Joshua has been counting how long since they knew each other (5 years 2 months 12 days). Kael gets angry when Dietrich threatens his family (Baron Pai). Joshua beats him allegedly for the 100th time, saying that she used to admire his passion. Kael agrees to help in retaking Imperium Glory, but refuses to be part of Evora-Patrician conflict.

You get some runes for Kael to court Joshua or Neely, then you help Joshua to provide some materials to Bethel slums. Joshua visits the slums only to find it under attack. She fights White Wolf who then escapes. After Jason recovers, he says that men in black attacked the slums, but they were repelled by White Wolf. You find a letter fragment that says Black Cat wants to fight White Wolf in Imperium Rex. You find items belonging to White Wolf in Imperium Rex, along with a hankerchief that Joshua gave Kael as a present. Bethel arrested Kael using White Wolf mask as an evidence. Dietrich thinks it's for the best if Kael is executed since he won't join Evora.

Joshua decides to rescue him. You ask Lyndell and Violet for help in order to block the city and sabotage the Vanguards' weapons. Joshua receives help from her master Karin in the form of mustaches and glasses. Kael says that Black Cat sent a challenge, saying she would kill the archon in Imperium Rex. Now, he thinks otherwise as Black Cat doesn't kill people. You overhear Black Cat complaining to Monblant that the latter framed Kael to get rid of him for leaving the Patrician. The deal with him is over.

Mikhail informs you that the real White Wolf has surrendered himself. The real one turns out to be Kael's elder brother. Kael decides to leave the Kadapia Parliament and join you. Leona visits him and he thinks, "Black Cat, I will never forget this contempt."

You will need to give the following items:

• Cast Iron x200
• High Quality Wood x200
• Holy Water of Armonia x5

You will need to complete the following raid missions:

• Imperium Arma Siege (Expert/Master/High Master)

You will need to kill monsters in the following field maps:

• Imperium Arma
• Bethel Great Plain
• Imperium Rex
• Bernier Mansion 1F/2F

Prerequisites: Completed The Symphonia Episode 4 scenario.

1. Talk to Leona in Illisia (G10).
2. Talk to Dietrich in Illisia (E7).
3. Talk to Joshua in Imperium Arma (G4).
4. Collect Witchcraft Troops Pendant (quest item) x150 by killing Witchcraft Troops Special Force (20%) or Witchcraft Troops 1st Regiment Soldier (100%) in Imperium Arma.
5. Talk to Joshua in Imperium Arma (G4) to give the above items.
6. Talk to Kael in Imperium Rex (G3) to start a non-combat mission ("Angry Kael").
7. Continue with a combat mission ("Angry Kael", 15 minutes) immediately after the previous mission.
• Reduce Kael (human) to 15% HP. Joshua will fight for you. 
• Tip: His DEF and Fire RES are extremely high. Use non-fire magic attackers (e.g. Aclla) instead. Lisa can help to tank (Wave Illusion skill) and reduce his RES further.
8. Continue with another non-combat mission ("Angry Kael") immediately after the previous mission.
9. Talk to Kael in Imperium Rex (G3).

Prerequisites: Completed the quest above.

1. Talk to Dietrich in Illisia (E7).
2. Talk to Kael in Imperium Rex (G3).
3. Collect Ancient Rune - Ti x10, Ancient Rune - Te x10, and Ancient Rune - An x20.
• These runes are roulette rewards in Rank 4 missions, as well as drops in Errac Land of Day/Night.
4. Talk to Kael in Imperium Rex (G3) to give the above items.
5. Talk to Joshua in Imperium Arma (G4).
6. Collect Composite Steel x200, Cast Iron x200, and High Quality Wood x200.
• These items drop in Viron forest maps. Textile Merchant in Port of Coimbra (J5) also sells HQ Wood for 47,700 Vis each.
7. Talk to Jason in Bethel Great Plain (C9) to give the above items.
8. Talk to Joshua in Imperium Arma (G4).
9. Start a non-combat mission ("White Wolf") in Bethel Great Plain (D9).
10. Continue with a combat mission ("White Wolf", 15 minutes) immediately after the previous mission.
• Reduce White Wolf (human) to 15% HP. Joshua and her minions will fight for you.
• Tip: Same as the previous combat mission ("Angry Kael").
11. Continue with a non-combat mission ("White Wolf") immediately after the previous mission.
12. Start a quest dialogue in Bethel Great Plain (D9).
13. Collect Holy Water of Armonia x5. See Armonia Daily Quests.
14. Start a quest dialogue in Bethel Great Plain (D9) to give the above items.
15. Collect Damaged Letter (quest item) x1 by killing Great Plain Bison/Boar/Leaping Croc/Hornet/Bear (1%) in Bethel Great Plain.
16. Talk to Jason in Bethel Great Plain (C9) to give the above item.

White Wolf

Prerequisites: Completed the quest above.

1. Collect Mask Piece (quest item) x10 by killing Guard Dog of Orden (1% or 10%) in Imperium Rex or Imperium Rex (Twisted Time).
2. Collect Cloth Piece of White Wolf (quest item) x10 by killing Kadapia Parliament Task Force/Strike Force/Trooper (1% or 10%) in Imperium Rex or Imperium Rex (Twisted Time).
3. Collect Bloodstained Hankerchief (quest item) x10 by killing Red/Blue Ghost of Titan (1% or 10%) in Imperium Rex or Imperium Rex (Twisted Time).
• These monsters are in the side rooms (H6, H8, E6, E8). Killing Kadapia Parliament Guard will spawn a gate that remains for 5 minutes. The big guard respawns in 50 (?) minutes.
4. Collect Broken Sword of White Wolf (quest item) x10 by killing Ghost Titan (1% or 10%) or Ghost Bribantra (1% or 10%) in Imperium Rex or Imperium Rex (Twisted Time).
• These monsters are in the northern room (F3/G3). Because there are also demons here, this will take considerably longer than the previous quest items.
• Some monsters here drop Solarion rarely.
5. Talk to Joshua in Imperium Arma (G4) to give the above items.

[135][The Clown of Illisia] Dilemma
Prerequisites: Completed the quest above.

1. Start a quest dialogue in Illisia (F10/G10).
2. Talk to Monblant Bethel in Bethel (F3).
3. Talk to Dietrich in Illisia (E7).

[135][The Clown of Illisia] Kael Rescue Operation
Prerequisites: Completed the quest above.

1. Talk to Joshua in Imperium Arma (G4).
2. Talk to Lyndell in Illisia (E5).
3. Collect Antique of Bernier Family (quest item) x10 by killing Fire/Ice/Lightning Deus Machina (5%) in Bernier Mansion 1F or Reinforced Fire/Ice/Lightning Deus Machina (5%) in Bernier Mansion 2F.
4. Talk to Lyndell in Illisia (E5) to give the above items.
5. Talk to Violet in Illisia (H7).
6. Collect Pistol of Castledoor (quest item) x1 by killing Dorr the Dragon Warlord (10%/50%/100%) in Imperium Arma Siege (Expert/Master/High Master) mission.
• This mission is available via Royal Road Training Controller in Royal Road (J6/J7). First entry of the day is free, while second entry costs 1 Elemental Jewel.
7. Talk to Violet in Illisia (H7) to give the above item.
8. Talk to Tools Merchant Neely in Illisia (H7).
9. Talk to Joshua in Imperium Arma (G4).
10. Start a non-combat mission ("Rescue Kael!") in Bethel (F9/G9).
11. Continue with a combat mission ("Rescue Kael!", 10 minutes) immediately after the previous mission.
• Defeat Monblant Bethel (human). Joshua will fight for you.
• Kael must remain alive, indicated by the gauge bar above him. Vanguards (human) will keep appearing to attack him.
• Tip: Focus on Monblant Bethel. More Vanguards will appear even if you kill them all. 
• Tip: Monblant also has very high DEF, so use magic attackers.
• Tip: Use a tanker (e.g. Sirius) to provoke some Vanguards away from Kael if you need more time to deal with Monblant.
12. Continue with a non-combat mission ("Rescue Kael!") immediately after the previous mission.

1. Talk to Joshua in Imperium Arma (G4).
2. Start a non-combat mission ("Complaint of Black Cat") in Bethel (E7).
3. Talk to Joshua in Imperium Arma (G4).
4. Talk to Kael in Imperium Rex (G3) for reward.
• You may need to have an all-female team to talk to Kael.
5. Talk to Leona in Illisia (G10).
6. Talk to Kael in Imperium Rex (G3).
