Taking a break from the game, this blog is currently on hiatus. 💤

Uraeus & Uranus

In the underground lake of Bahamar Underground Cave, there is a huge serpent which serves as a raid boss in Granado Espada. In Sword of the New World, there seems to be some confusion over the actual name of this raid boss. (Other editions of the game do not have this issue.) So... should it be Uraeus or Uranus?

Hey, you! So which U are you?

http://yfrog.com/5csesostris23jUraeus is the stylized, upright form of an Egyptian spitting cobra, used as a symbol of sovereignty, royalty, and divine authority in ancient Egypt. It is a symbol for the goddess Wadjet, one of the earliest of Egyptian deities, who often was depicted as a cobra.

Wadjet was the protector of Lower Egypt, so her image was worn by the pharaohs as a head ornament, which conveyed legitimacy to the ruler. At the time of the unification of Egypt, the image of Nekhbet, the white vulture which held the same position as the patron of Upper Egypt, joined the image of Wadjet on the Uraeus that would encircle the crown of the pharaohs who ruled the unified Egypt. Together they were known as The Two Ladies, who became the joint protectors and patrons of the unified Egypt.

Later, the pharaohs were seen as a manifestation of the sun-god Re, and so it also was believed that the Uraeus protected them by spitting fire on their enemies from the fiery eye of the goddess.

http://yfrog.com/5jplaneturanusgUranus (Greek, sky) is personified as the son and husband of Gaia, Mother Earth, in Greek mythology. Uranus and Gaia were ancestors of most of the Greek gods, but no cult addressed directly to Uranus survived. Most Greeks considered Uranus to be primordial, and gave him no parentage. His cruelty to his children, including the Cyclopes and the Hecatonchires, led to his castration by Cronus, the youngest of the Titans. He was thus overthrown by Cronus, who in turn was eventually overthrown by Zeus.

The name Uranus is also given to the seventh planet from the Sun, and the third-largest and fourth most massive planet in the Solar System.

In short, Uraeus is an upright snake. Uranus is the elder sky god. Maybe G1 didn't know that Uraeus is a proper word/name. They need to stop changing text unnecessarily... and fix the text that are actually broken.
